The Reggio-Inspired Day Home offers a nurturing environment where children thrive through play, exploration, and guided learning. Parents often wonder what a typical day looks like for their child. Here’s an insider’s view into a day at The Reggio-Inspired Day Home, where we emphasize curiosity, creativity, and independence.
Morning Routines
Each day begins with a warm welcome from our dedicated educators. As children arrive, they are greeted with smiles and given time to settle in. Parents often stay for a brief moment, easing any separation anxiety. Our morning routine allows children to choose from various activities, like process art, puzzles, or sensory play, as they ease into the day.
Open Play and Exploration
At our day home, open play is the foundation of learning. Toddlers and preschoolers are free to explore a variety of materials in a safe, engaging space. From building with blocks to loose parts to experimenting with water tables, children are encouraged to follow their curiosity. Educators observe their interests and provide new provocations daily that spark deeper exploration.
Teacher-Guided Provocations
As the children engage in open play, educators introduce teacher-guided provocations, open-ended questions, tasks, or materials designed to spark further inquiry. These provocations might involve a discussion about the weather, a hands-on activity like planting seeds, or a group project based on a child’s interest. By guiding exploration rather than dictating it, we foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Morning Meeting
Each day, we gather together for group discussion, song, and movement as the children connect as a group while investigating new topics. This is a wonderful time of sharing, listening, and reflecting as a class.
Outdoor Play
We are proud to have a dedicated outdoor space for the children to explore nature, enjoy process art, sand tables, gross motor, and creative play with peers. The children go outside in all (safe) weather conditions as they make new discoveries with each changing season.
Meal Times
Meal times are a relaxed, social time of connection where children come together to share a nutritious meal. During this time, children practice self-care, learn about healthy foods, and develop social skills. Educators use this opportunity to model positive behaviors and encourage open communication. It’s a time for children to build relationships with their peers and nourish their bodies. During meal times, our educators introduce a new book to share and discuss around the table. Children help clean up as they finish, practicing independence while developing life skills.
Rest Time
After a busy morning, children transition to rest time. We create a calm, peaceful environment where kids can recharge. Some children may sleep, while others rest quietly with a book or a calming activity. This time ensures children are energized and ready for the next round of activities.
Afternoon Exploration
The afternoon is filled with exploration and creativity. Children engage in collaborative activities, like group art projects or outdoor play in our nature-based outdoor space. Whether they're practicing their fine motor skills or discovering new textures, every activity is designed to encourage exploration and independence.
A typical day at The Reggio-Inspired Day Home is full of opportunities for growth, learning, and fun. From the morning’s peaceful start to the afternoon's creative exploration, our intentional routines and thoughtful provocations ensure children are engaged in meaningful ways. We believe in fostering independence, curiosity, and emotional well-being in every child.
